"Hoodwinked" Hits $100 Million
Big news! After playing around the globe, the girl in the hood has finally hit the $100 Million mark. Not bad for an $8 Million indie film. I gotta say, it feels GOOD. Thanks to everyone on the crew who worked on this labor of love… and sweat… and tears. You know who you are.

Here’s a nice quote from Harvey Weinstein in this week’s Wall Street Journal: “The first six months in the new company, I got fascinated with animation and built an infrastructure for that. I didn’t know that right out the box we’d have such a monster hit in “Hoodwinked.” [The film grossed $101 million world-wide.] And now we’re in production with ‘Hoodwinked II’.”
And for a little icing on the cake, we’re #1 in Brazil this month. Boom.

Excellent, Cory. Great to hear. I’ll add that info to the piece I’m finishing up. I’m so far behind on my site! Who made the rule about paying gigs coming first, anyway…?

Congrats Cory and gang! I’m so happy for you all!
BTW, my sons totally think that the squirrel in Over the Hedge was inspired by YOURS. 🙂

Gayla,
Tell your boys I have my suspicions… There are a bunch of singing frogs in the upcoming Disney flick “Meet the Robinsons,” and they look EXACTLY like Nicky Flippers. What are you gonna do?
I’ve had friends who read for roles in “Over the Hedge” years earlier and they said Hammy’s big scene of drinking a sports drink and going berzerk was always in there. Sometimes painful similarities just happen.

Congrats. That’s quite an accomplishment. I noticed that you mentioned an $8M figure. Wikipedia mentions a figure between $15 and $20M. The $15M number seems to be the most popular. Was it really $8M?
