The Script is… Where??
So… apparently my script for Fraggle Rock got leaked and was reviewed on a website last week. Not cool.
The good news is that the blogger seemed to like most of it. The bad news is that this was in NO WAY approved by me. I haven’t even let my close friends read this script, and now I have to hear about it as it is picked apart by a stranger.
Honestly, I appreciate the blogger’s kind words and his generally positive reaction to the script. But I really, really hate that this happened. It just deflates me and frustrates me to no end. This is a work in progress that is not ready to be handed out. I have no idea what draft this guy read or how he got ahold of it. But it’s an old draft. Trust me.
Some things being discussed in this “review” aren’t even in the script anymore, and many things have been added since. Many facts reported about the script are just plain wrong. The unfortunate effect of this is like the game “Telephone” : A misconception is reported, which is then reinterpreted further on a comment board, which becomes something ridiculous and not true. (i.e., OF COURSE Mokey is in the movie. Why would I cut Mokey out of the movie?)
And currently, as of this draft, the Gorgs are in the movie. Not much, but they make an appearance. So everyone can stop debating why they aren’t there.
I’m “out there,” reading the chat boards all the time, because I want to know what’s important to the fans. But the extremists are making me want to stay away. That’s why I’m disappointed by this leak. It only fuels more inaccuracies and rumors about unfinished material.
I know everyone is excited about the movie and chomping at the bit to get any information, but have some patience. Please. Let me do the work. It’s never a good idea to open your Christmas presents early. And it’s not polite to go through someone’s underwear drawer unless you ask them.
And even then, it’s kind of weird.

I can understand why you’d be so stressed about such a violation – especially with such an early draft. Still, the review I read seemed promising. It was my assumption that the rogue script making the rounds had your blessing or at least your knowledge. That’s just terrible. I hope you will continue to update us here.
I have been a longtime supporter of your Fraggle project since it was announced (and it seems to be much further along than Segel’s Muppet project) and I continue to believe that you’re the right fit for this Fraggle film.
Oh, and – yaaay Gorgs!

I wondered about that review. It just seemed odd. I mean, according to it, Majory is featured … but the Gorgs were missing? The blogger, I don’t recall, didn’t even think it weird … because MARJORY LIVES IN THE GORG’S GARDEN! Anyway, I’m glad some of that weirdness is out of date. 🙂 Like I’ve said before, you could make a Fraggle movie out of stick figures. I trust the storytelling that much.

I thought the Mokey and gorg thingie sounded more than a little odd, it’s nice to know it was :). It must be awful to have a draft to be treated like a final version by a reviewer, most of all without your okay :(.

Cory, sorry to hear that an early draft of your script was leaked.
At least the guy didn’t include a bunch of details about the plot like most movie news sites would.
I hope the process is continuing to go well!

Agreed. The internet is a dangerous place sometimes, but most Fraggle fans seem happy the writer/director is sharing what tidbits he can.
The movie is, and will be, very much anticipated no matter what happens. Keep it coming, keep it working 🙂
