“HOODWINKED TOO” Trailer & Release Date Announced

Well guys, I guess hell has frozen over because “Hoodwinked Too: Hood Vs. Evil” is finally committing to a release date: April 29.  And even though that is the fourth date that I’ve heard, the TRAILER has officially gone online this morning, so I think it’s real this time. And yes, it will be released in 3D.

You’ll see that the sequel is distinctly different from the original in look and tone, but a film is shaped by its director and I did not direct this one. Forgive the abundance of fart jokes and crotch kicks — those were not in the script we wrote (okay, ONE… but that was really a “nerve gas joke”). Also, this trailer has some sound effects and lines that aren’t even in the movie. I guess the Weinstein machine thought it needed ONE more fart sound and ONE more joke about Twitchy not wearing pants. It’s weird to write something four years ago, have it evolve in others’ hands, and then finally see it hit the screen. And I’m going to miss the unique musical stamp Todd put on the first movie with all his original songs — not here on this one.

However,  I’m very proud that our characters have been loved enough to live on and to generate a second movie. It’s a whole new adventure with them, with some new twists.

And now I guess I can refer to myself as a co-creator of “The Hoodwinked Franchise”…on those days when I’m feeling really egotistical.

Hmm, I’m afraid to say the trailer doesn’t make it look very good, but I’ll reserve my judgement until I see the actual film. Just how many fart jokes, crotch kicks, etc. will actually in the final film?

I’m not sure what I think of the new voices either, but I’ll give them a chance to grow on me. At least Patrick Warburton is still playing the wolf. He’s one of the best voice actors around.

Is there any hope for the Fraggle Rock movie!!!

  • Jacob Says:

Twitchy’s voice sounds a lot different. It sounds higher and less fast, almost like Alvin & The Chipmunks. Will his voice be like that in the actual movie, or did the trailer editors just edit it for the trailer?

  • Jeremiah Says:

I thought that Twitchy’s voice sounded a lot higher also. Is this how it will sound in the actual film?

If they do exist in the movie, I hope they can be cut out of it on time! If we want a sequel to a film that didn’t have fart jokes in it, make the cult following common. Hoodwinked 1 was one of the most entertaining low budget films I’ve seen since the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes quadrilogy.

I saw the preview and thought the same thing about the tone. I don’t mind the new look, but I do find it disappointing that the Weinstein company feels to the need to include more jokes about flatulence and incorporate other cliche elements to (I assume) try and play it safe. I also loved the music of the first one and have the soundtrack, so I will miss Todd’s input as well.

As the same time, you did write the script and created such great characters that I think it will be hard for them to completely mess it up. I am hoping that the preview didn’t do this movie justice.

I would be interested to see how closely the final product resembles your original script.

As a huge fan of the original, I am disappointed to hear there is no music in the sequel, as i think it made it very special. I do hope the Goat is back tho.

However, we are very excited to have it FINALLY come to theatres. My 5 year old is soooo excited, we have literally watched the trailer 6 times straight.

We’re huge fans of Hoodwinked at my house. I was sad to see that it went in a different direction with the sequel. I knew an hour or so before I saw the closing credits that it’s direction was shaped largely by “outside forces”. I grieved the loss of the goat and Wolf as REAL characters. I’ll consider this chapter apocryphal.

I don’t see how there could have been any focus group asking, “What did you like about the original?”. I don’t think Hollywood will ever “get it” that the success of films like Hoodwinked, Napolean Dynamite or the Pixar films is largely BECAUSE they are so non-Hollywood.

Wobots was great and not because of the awesome special effects. Adult viewers didn’t get excited about Napoleon Dynamite, Toy Story or Hoodwinked because of their awesome visuals. I know Cory already knows all of this. It’s just frustrating.

You guys need to just do your thing and don’t let anybody mess with it. God bless. Looking forward to what you’ve got coming next.
